Cycle 8 2021 has started!

Oct 04, 2021

Dear colleagues,

On Friday 1 October the last Cycle 7 science observations were completed, which marked the official end of this observing Cycle. It has been the most challenging Cycle in ALMA’s history, and included a one-year break in science observing caused by the pandemic. During the last month, science data have been taken with the antennas in the longest baseline configuration, enabling unique high spatial resolution observations. Now, the antenna configuration has moved back to C-8.

ALMA is very pleased to share the news that on the evening of 1 October, the first observations for Cycle 8 2021 were successfully completed and observing has continued since then. The data sets are currently being quality-assessed and some data have already been delivered to the respective principal investigators.

As always, the ALMA Regional Centers provide support for ALMA users. If you have any questions, comments or concerns about your ALMA projects, please contact the ALMA Helpdesk at https://help.almascience.org/.

We wish you and your families to stay safe and healthy.
