The Proposal Form
When the Proposal node is selected, the Proposal form is loaded in the Editor pane. The form contains roughly a dozen fields for describing the proposal, including an abstract, proposal type, scientific keywords and investigator information. Completing the information should be straightforward and the meaning of the fields, and whether they need to filled in, self-explanatory. Note though that the proposal type can only be edited for proposals before their first submission - after this, no further edits are possible. The available proposal types are:
- Regular: these proposals request relatively modest amounts of time and are submitted by most users.
- Large: these are defined as proposals that require more than 50 hours for the 12-m Array or 150 hours for the stand-alone ACA (measured by the 7-m time only). These projects must receive an A grade in order to receive time and are allowed a longer Scientific Justification.
- Target Of Opportunity: for proposing the observation of an unpredictable sudden astronomical event, such as a Gamma-ray burst. Source coordinates do not have to be entered at proposal submission time.
- VLBI: ALMA can observe as part of a VLBI array due to the installation of hardware that allows the signals from each antenna to be summed. However, a VLBI proposal must also be submitted to the VLBI array in question e.g. the Global mm-VLBI Array (GMVA). This proposal type is also used for so-called ``pulsar mode'' where ALMA operates a single dish.
Once a Science Category has been provided, a list of keywords appears, the content of which depends on which category has been picked. At least one, and up to two, can be chosen and the Shift and Control/Command keys can be used to select multiple entries in the usual manner.
